Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition Planned for 2023, Includes First Major Expansion

It seems like CD Projekt RED just never stops. All those new projects, the upcoming next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and a recent parade of updates for Cyberpunk 2077 making the game so much better than when it initially launched, alongside all of the Gwent. Plus Netflix things and oh-so-much more...

Now the studio has announced that when its expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, is released in the early part of next year it will come packaged in a Game of the Year edition of Cyberpunk 2077.

"This is the natural order of things,” said CDPR boss, Adam Kiciński, during a recent presentation (thanks, VGC). “It was the same with The Witcher, which after both add-ons was finally released as a Game of the Year Edition and has been on the market in this way ever since. The same can be expected in this case.”

This spells a legitimate end to the series once released outside potential updates and quality of life additions overall, which makes sense given the series' purported sequel has shifted to development on Unreal 5. But we can't help but feel like at least another expansion should have come, to keep that so-called "natural order of things" in line with what the studio did with The Witcher 3.

No release date has been announced, but it's expected we'll be seeing this by at least Q2, 2023. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
