How to Fix “Can’t be invited as a collaborator yet” on Instagram

Are you or your friend getting the “Can’t be invited as a collaborator yet” error message?

The error happens when you try to add someone as a collaborator on Instagram.

Instagram Collabs allow you to co-author content with other accounts.

The original author can tag another account as a collaborator.

The person who gets tagged can choose to accept or deny the request.

If the person accepts the request, the post will be shown to their followers and on their profile.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to fix “Can’t be invited as a collaborator yet” on Instagram.

Why can’t I be added as a collaborator on Instagram?
Can't I be added as a collaborator yet on Instagram

You can’t be added as a collaborator on Instagram because you don’t have a business account.

Otherwise, your account is set to private or you’ve prevented others from tagging you.

In addition to having a business account, you need to complete your profile.

This includes adding a name and website, following others, and inviting your friends.

Once you’ve done this, you need to wait for 48 hours for you to collab with others.

In some cases, Instagram might be down—which means that you need to wait for the servers to be up for the collaboration feature to work.

How to fix “Can’t be invited as a collaborator yet” on Instagram

To fix “Can’t be invited as a collaborator yet” on Instagram, you need to switch to a business account, complete your profile, and wait for 48 hours.

If your account is set to private, you need to change it to a public account.

If you’ve prevented others from tagging you, you need to allow tags from everyone.

Lastly, you need to turn off the “Manually Approve Tags” privacy setting.

Fix 1: Switch to a business account, complete your profile, and wait for 48 hours
  1. Open Instagram > Profile > Menu.
  2. Settings > Account > Switch to professional account.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to switch to a business account.
  4. Profile > x of 3 steps complete > add a name and website > follow some people > invite your friends.
  5. Wait for 48 hours and you’ll be able to collab with others on Instagram.

Editor’s note: I personally managed to be invited as a collaborator after 48 hours of using this method (yes, it takes some time for the feature to work). Previously, I was unable to because I had a personal account and I haven’t completed my profile.

Fix 2: Set your account to public instead of private
  1. Open Instagram > Profile > Menu.
  2. Settings > Privacy > Private account.
  3. Disable “Private account”.

Editor’s note: You should be able to invite a collaborator to a post after you set your account to public. The person that you want to collaborate with needs to set their account to public too.

Fix 3: Allow people to tag you on Instagram
Allow tags on Instagram
  1. Open Instagram > Profile > Menu.
  2. Settings > Privacy > Posts.
  3. Set “Allow Tags From” to “Everyone”.
  4. Set “Manually Approve Tags” to “Off”.

Editor’s note: Allowing tags and turning off “Manually Approve Tags” are mandatory for others to collab with you on Instagram. The person that you want to collaborate with needs to have these settings too.
