MW2 community believes Warzone may have ruined the CoD franchise

Since Warzone’s initial introduction in 2020, the popular battle royale has quickly become one of the most played game modes in CoD history. Unfortunately, its popularity has led some in the community to believe that the game mode is ruining MW2 and the FPS franchise as a whole.

Based on recent patch notes, there may be some truth to this sentiment as most of the changes and updates have indeed gone towards improving Warzone 2. The neglect that Infinity Ward has shown to its equally popular multiplayer mode has also not gone unnoticed after the community had raised concerns about its lack of developer attention.

Naturally, players have turned to Reddit as a way of bringing more attention to the issue at hand. One particular post, simply entitled “Warzone ruined CoD”, has gained a ton of popularity recently as it seems that a large number of players share the same view.

The post author initially laments the previously mentioned notion that the developers no longer care about multiplayer. They go on to mention that “ever since Fortnite blew up, every single game has had a battle pass and seasons and battle royale.” Afterwards, they begin to note that multiplayer is terrible compared to Warzone because it’s “full of glitches and people hacking.”

The frustrated player ends the thread by poking fun at Activision’s and Infinity Ward’s content strategy, which consists of taking a section out of the Warzone 2 map, Al Mazrah, pasting it into multiplayer as a new map, rinse and repeat.

Some people are in agreement with the post creator, with one stating that they didn’t get the hate for Warzone until they realized that it makes the content way worse. A few users, however, believe that it was Activision that ruined CoD and not just Warzone itself.

No matter whose fault it was, it doesn’t seem like MW2 is going to be redeemed any time soon, especially after the announcement of the new 2023 CoD title. Hopefully, we do get some significant improvements for this title soon, because the player base deserves that much.
